I want share a great story with all of you, it is sad too.
My cousin Steve (my step-cousin actually, but who cares) has been battling cancer for over 3 years, he was diagnosed with a very rare, very aggresive form cancer at about 12-13 years old, so rare less than 10 people in the US have it. Every time he got a new tumor it had to be removed immediately. They cut out half his liver, parts of his lungs. He lives in Tucson and the specialist is in Philadelphia, so they made regular trips cros country. This child's body looked like a greyhound route map from all the scars. The last tumor he got wrapped around his esophagus so they could not treat it. So this child's life has been suffereing and he fought like a champ.
Now for the great part...
Because he was a child, he was able to do the "Make a Wish" thing about two years ago. His wish was togo to a Green Bay Packer's game and meet the team. So he met Brett Favre. Yesterday I stopped to see my mom and she said my aunt called and said they don't expect Steve to make it through the week, his body was shutting down. I also found out that Brett Favre has been keeping in touch with him and told him that he would take Steve hunting at his property sometime. So one would think a person of the caliber (famous, etc) may just say things like that. But then Steve's family contacted Brett and told him Steve was going down hill fast. So Brett took time out of his busy football schedule to set up the trip. He arranged his private jet to fly Steve down to his property. They set him up in a blind, taught him how to shoot the gun and Steve got a 10-point buck - now I'm no hunter, but thats a good size deer! And Brett took a day and went to spent it with Steve too. This was abot two weeks ago. I have heard Brett Favre did nice things for kids, but I now have first hand knowledge and he did a great thing for someone in my family. So I will be rooting for Green Bay this year.
I just thought I would share this. I think it was wonderful for Brett Favre to keep his word to a kid, especially during play-off season.
The saddest part - Steve died yesterday afternoon. So ends the horrible suffering for a 16 year old boy. I feel the worst for his mother, I cannot fathom losing a child. So please keep his family in your prayers.
