Sounding good

I called dad last week to check on him and he sounded so good! He was not breathy at all and had some humor. He said he is still retaining fluid in his legs and his left leg was huge.

I called today to check on him and talked to my sister for a few minutes before Hospice beeped in and she had to call me back. The Hospice doctor was in yesterday and was scheduling an ultrasound of his left leg to check for blood clots. She called me back and said he was going in at 1:30 for the ultrasound so I post when I know.

I started typing this before I left work and I am too lazy to erase everything to start over so I will just continue on...

I called on my way home from work to see if there were any results and dad a "numerous" blood clots in his left leg. They are waiting for the Hospice nurse to come with some blood thinner shots for him. They will show them how to give the shots (my gram had to give herself the same shots after her stint was put in) and he will also be on an oral blood thinner. He is to stay off his feet for 3-4 days. I will post more after I find out more. I have no idea at this point how many shots he will need or how long they will give the blood thinners before they do another ultrasound to check them.

So not horrible considering his prognosis when he was diagnosed - he is still here.

Social butterfly

My, my dad has had a couple social engagements lately. He is catching up to my daughter! He came to Charlie's third birthday at Chuck E. Cheese (yuck!) a couple of weeks ago and he was at my Grandma's (his mother) 80th birthday open house last Saturday. He is looking well and moving ok. He is a little puffy about the jaw and had two more teeth pulled. His arms looks a little yucky from the steroids he is on, they make his skin thinner and the capillaries burst.

Overall I think he is doing as well as he can and his spirits seem to be good. He has some humor.
